Elevating Latinx Young Leaders with EA

Electronic Arts (EA) partnered with CoLabL to design and host a scholarship pitch competition with Latinx young leaders ages 16-30 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, CoLabL partnered with Electronic Arts (EA) and developed the “Stronger Together” Scholarship Pitch competition. The initiative invited Latinx young leaders ages 16-30 that are enrolled with or alumni of community-based programs to develop and deliver a two-minute pitch in response to: “How does your community program align with the theme of “stronger together?”

There were over 30 Latinx young leaders selected to participate, representing 18 community programs. CoLabL engaged them in a pitch prep session where we reviewed public speaking tips, storytelling techniques, and how to pitch virtually. We also offered one-on-one reviews of practice pitch videos.

We kicked off the pitch event on October 1 with Latinx leaders, Cosette Gutierrez of Latino U College Access and Rick Cruz of Arabella Advisors, sharing their insights and inspiration from their leadership and career journey.

On pitch day, CoLabL engaged EA employee volunteers representing four countries and diverse functional areas as judges for the competition. Across two pitch rounds, judges scored the Latinx young leaders on confidence, content, and delivery.

Six Latinx young leaders that scored the highest each received scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000 to support them on their academic and career journey. The scholarship recipients were ambassadors for America Needs YouGenesys Works Bay AreaProject BastaTECHNOLOchicas, and the Dreamers Soccer Clinic.

Really well-coordinated and administered event. All the information leading up to the event was clear and concise, and I never felt lost about what to do. Really impressive considering how many people were involved.

Thank you again for the amazing opportunity! This goes further than monetary value for me. Everyone involved is making a significant impact by simply giving students like me a platform to talk about what has helped them get through the storm

Lasly, Scholarship Recipient

At CoLabL, we are committed to elevating the voices and talent of diverse young leaders, and we are so grateful for partnerships with companies like EA and community programs supporting these young leaders every day.
